Transportation

Approximately 20,000 students (including non-public) who reside in District 833 will attend school this year, and 16,000 of them will ride a school bus to and from school. The goal of the transportation department is to provide safe, reliable and efficient transportation to students who reside in our school district. We work to ensure that students arrive at school ready to learn!

Please take some time to learn about our department and some of the required forms for various family situations. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We look forward to meeting your family's transportation needs!

School Bus Safety Information

As the end of the year approaches please remind students to continue to follow Bus safety and behavior rules.  Any misbehavior or inappropriate actions will be addressed by the bus driver and or reported to the Transportation Dept for follow up.    Last year, several students violated bus rules and used the rear emergency exit door at a stop along their route. Unauthorized use of the emergency exit door not only violates State Patrol guidelines, it is also an extremely dangerous act and a serious safety violation.  Consequences for this action and other misbehaviors will be implemented, and may include assigned seating, parent contact, Principal contact, summer detention, bus suspension, school detention and/or removal of all transportation privileges. Consequences may affect bussing privileges for school year 2018-19.

Please take time to review the school bus rules with your student to ensure all students have a safe and comfortable ride to and from school. Also, our staff provides yearly training to all students on the bus rules, safe riding expectations and emergency evacuations process. Together, we are committed to partnering with parents and school staff to guarantee the safe transport of the students we serve.

School Bus rules posted in every bus:

Information on Temporary Bus Passes for Students

Bus Passes are intended for EMERGENCY PURPOSES ONLY.  No Passes will be approved for playdates, parties, school projects or homework projects etc.  This applies to all students of all grade levels in all schools.

In an emergency situation please contact the Transportation Office at 651-425-5303 and request a Bus Pass.

Bus Passes are temporary ONE day passes.

A Bus Pass is also required if the emergency requires a student to get on/off at an alternate stop other than their own bus stop on their current route.

Correspondence from parents/guardians will NOT be accepted by Bus Drivers as a valid Bus Pass.  NO handwritten notes, text messages etc. will be accepted.   Only passes reviewed and approved by the Transportation office will be accepted by Bus Drivers. All confirmed and approved Bus Passes will be issued in a standard format and sent from the Transportation Office to the School.  The student should pick up the Bus Pass from the school office and present it to the Bus Driver.

Walking Area

South Washington County Schools generally provides transportation to Elementary students (K-6) who live more than 1-mile (5280 feet) from the school, Middle School students more than 1.5 miles and High School students more than 2 miles from the school the student attends.  Traffic hazard factors and distance are the two primary criteria used to establish the Non-Transported areas. The distance in the Non-Transported areas are determined by measuring the most direct route, from the roadway opposite the private residence of the student to the nearest driveway of the school. The distance shall be measured on a public street or highway. Students that attend a school other than their assigned school through open enrollment and whose parent/guardian have signed a waiver of transportation are not eligible for this transportation regardless of the distance.
