Newport Elementary School held a Cultural Arts Festival on Thursday, Jan. 23 as a way for students to learn about the world’s many cultures.

District 833 Chinese language students and staff presented China Night on Jan. 30, which was the Chinese New Year’s Eve.

Logan Carstensen (Science, Lake Middle School), Donna Lloyd (Kindergarten, Woodbury Elementary), and Alissa Hill (Second Grade, Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion) have been named candidates for Education Minnesota’s Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

The School Board is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, with the following items on the agenda:

PreK Information Nights are scheduled for Monday, Feb. 3, from 6-7 p.m. at Central Park (8595 Central Park Place, Woodbury) and Thursday, Feb. 6, from 6-7 p.m.

The South Washington County School District will be closing school on Tuesday, Jan. 28. This is due to the continued wind chill warning through the National Weather Service.

The South Washington County School District will be closing school on Monday, Jan. 27.

Diana Getzlaff, a Park High School graduate of 2005, has been hired as the school’s new volleyball coach. She takes over for R.T. Luczak, who resigned from that position this winter.

State Senator Susan Kent, who represents District 53 in Woodbury, was joined by Representative JoAnn Ward of District 53A and by the chairs of the Senate Education Committees Senator Chuck Wiger and Senator Patricia Torres Ray for a tour of East Ridge High School.
