Woodbury High School students organize Hmong New Year Celebration

Woodbury High School’s Hmong Club organized and hosted a district-wide Hmong New Year Celebration, on December 14. This annual event, which featured a performance by local comedian Tou Ger Bennett Xiong, drew its largest crowd ever this year.

Guests enjoyed Hmong cuisine before going into the auditorium for cultural performances. Hmong dance groups performed to both traditional and contemporary music and youth from throughout the community gave a variety of talent performances before Xiong took the stage.

Xiong, best known for competing on America’s Got Talent, has done stand up shows in 45 states.

“I’m so proud of the Hmong student leaders,” Xiong said “that's why I do these high school shows.”

In addition to Xiong’s multi-generational show, the crowd was treated to a performance by an emerging rap artist, and a student fashion show.
