Woodbury High School senior speaks before State Senate
On March 6, Kamal Suleiman, a senior at Woodbury High School, testified before the Minnesota Senate on behalf of Equity Alliance MN Youth Executive Board (YEB), regarding the bill SF 1555. This bill encourages racial diversity in teaching staff across the state.
Suleiman and nine other students in the district are members of Equity Alliance MN YEB, which focuses on leadership, team-building, racial and cultural understanding, and educational equity. As part of this group, Suleiman has participated in a superintendent think tank, Re-Imagine MN and his recent testimony at the capitol. YEB will attend Youth Day at the Capitol on March 21 and meet with legislators to discuss issues focused on educational equity such as SF 1555.
The 10 YEB students in the district are Gouri Bollepalli, Mara Weston, Max Gates, Faith Hang and Bereket Lajebo from East Ridge, Bella Hang, Bethany Tamrat, and Chandra Vang from Park, and Kamal Suleiman and Mikayla Yang from Woodbury High.
