Woodbury High School cheer team wins National Championship

WHS Cheer Team

The Woodbury High School Varsity Cheer Team attended the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida, the weekend of February 10 and 11. The team competed in two divisions; the Small Varsity Non-Tumbling and the Small Varsity Game Day Non-Tumbling.

The team took home the National Championship in the Small Varsity Game Day Non-Tumbling division. This division consists of a band dance, situational sideline, timeout cheer and fight song.

“This weekend was just the icing on the cake after an exciting and undefeated season locally,” said Head Cheer Coach Andria Mattlin. “The girls’ determination, mixed with the team’s overall chemistry, was a huge factor in the win.”

The team also placed fourth out of over 40 teams in Small Varsity Non-Tumbling division. Their score was so high in the preliminary round that they were able to opt out of the semi-final round and move directly to finals.

Congratulations on their outstanding performances!
