University of Minnesota Raptor Center visits Middleton Elementary School

The University of Minnesota Raptor Center brought three raptors to Middleton Elementary School on Sept. 20 to help students learn more about the birds, their rehabilitation and the Raptor Center.

Raptors included in the visit were a Paragon Falcon, Redtail Hawk and Great Horned Owl.

“We are happy to partner with the Raptor Center to provide our students with this unique learning opportunity. It is a joy to see the kids get excited to learn about animals,” said Jenna Downs, Assistant Principal to Middleton Elementary School.

The Raptor Center rehabilitates nearly 800 sick and injured raptors every year. This weekend they will be releasing some of their rehabilitated animals into the wild at Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center in Hastings.

The public is welcome to attend the release which will start at 10 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. The free event will also feature children’s activities and educational booths.
