South Washington County Schools hires new Middleton Elementary School Principal

South Washington County Schools is pleased to announce that Arthur Williams has accepted the position of Principal at Middleton Elementary School. Williams received approval at the August 9 School Board meeting and will begin his position with the District on August 13, 2018.

For the past five years, Williams has served his community as an elementary school principal at Winona Area Public Schools. In his role as principal at Jefferson Elementary STEM School, he worked to create a school culture for learning, promote an environment that is respectful for all and foster relationships with parents and the community for the betterment of the students.

Williams is passionate about Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) education and worked with Winona Area Public Schools to bring STEM programs to schools. He created Engineering Expos at Jefferson Elementary, which successfully helped show families STEM learning in action through student projects. In addition, Williams is a trainer in engineering for schools, certified by the Minnesota Science Museum and Next Generation Science Standards, he has spoken about science education at national conferences and in the fall will sit on the Minnesota State Science Standard Review Committee to look at state standards for science education.

Superintendent Keith Jacobus commented, “I am excited to welcome Arthur Williams to South Washington County Schools. His passion for engaging all students in hands-on learning and fostering relationships between families and the community will be a valuable asset to Middleton Elementary. Furthermore, his experience in elementary schools as a teacher, supervisor and principal will help him understand the unique needs and opportunities for our staff and students.”

Williams began his career in education as a 3rd and 5th grade teacher at Bloomington Public School’s Oak Grove Elementary School. There he developed classes and instructional plans for multicultural populations and coordinated various educational units and curriculum.

He says he is looking forward to joining the Middleton Elementary School community and is eager to meet families at the school’s Open House on Wednesday, August 29th from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

“I am honored and extremely excited to join and work with the amazing kids, dynamic staff and dedicated parents of Middleton Elementary School," said Williams.

Williams earned his K-12 Principals License, as well as a Master of Education Degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Foundations of Education from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.

He is replacing Sara Palodichuk, who after four years as Principal at Middleton Elementary School, has accepted a new position within District 833 as the East Ridge High School Activities Director.
