Six students chosen to participate in exclusive state honor band

WHS Honor Band students

Congratulations to six Woodbury High School music students who were recently chosen to participate in the Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA) Honor Band.

Christian Agaba, Aditya Ashwin Pondicherry, Kate McGlinch, Paul Nielsen, Drew Olson and Joshua Shippee were six of only 81 students who were selected to perform in the Honor Band. This winter, over 244 students auditioned. These students will have the opportunity to work with some of the finest music educators in the state as their section coaches, and will be conducted by Rob Taylor.

“We had 14 students audition for this elite ensemble this year. To have this many students try out, and six make it, shows that the future of our band program is in very good hands,” said Tark Katzenmeyer, Band Director at Woodbury High School. “I’m so proud of the exceptional effort these kids continue to make towards becoming top-notch musicians.”

Students will rehearse with Taylor on Saturday, April 21 and perform in the auditorium of Kasson-Mantorville High School on Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m.

MBDA is a professional organization of band directors representing band programs of all grade levels across the state of Minnesota.
