Pullman Elementary School hosts 12th Annual Turkey Dinner

Pullman's Turkey Dinner

On Thursday, November 8, Pullman Elementary School hosted more than 500 students, parents and staff for its 12th Annual Turkey Dinner.

Students were greeted by teachers and other staff members who served them a free dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, a dinner roll and a cookie. In addition the meal, families participated in coloring activities, bingo and a raffle for prizes. Prizes included frozen turkeys, books, stuffed animals and other various children’s toys.

As part of this annual dinner, Pullman accepted donations to their coat drive. These coats will be sold at a coat sale this winter for only $1. All money collected will be used to buy supplies, clothing and food for the school’s health office and students in need.

“I believe it is truly a community event that people look forward to,” said Ed Ross, Principal at Pullman Elementary School. “We, as a school, are happy to provide a place for everyone to gather, have a good meal and a good time with family and friends.”

The event has changed over the years. It first began as a spaghetti dinner for purchase, where students and families could play bingo and have a chance to win prizes. About 10 years ago the staff at Pullman decided to serve a turkey dinner at no charge in an effort to promote conversations in a dinner-type atmosphere.

Each year the staff at Pullman Elementary collect money to buy the frozen turkeys and prizes that are given away during bingo. The St. Paul Park/Newport Lions Club donated the funds to provide this year’s dinner.
