The district’s high schools are hosting informational sessions in January for current eighth graders and their parents to learn about the course opportunities they will have next year as ninth graders.

Winter break in District 833 begins at the end of the school day on Friday, Dec. 20. School will resume on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.

The Kids Club programs at Hillside and Pine Hill elementary schools competed against each other to see who could raise the most boxes of cereal to donate to the Friends in Need Food Shelf.

District 833 has procedures in place on how the decision to close school is made.

District 833’s schools in Cottage Grove, St. Paul Park and Newport began the 10 Days of Giving: Holiday Train Food Drive for the local food shelf and Holiday Train this week.

The approved process is summarized below and will be included at length on the district’s beginning next week under Hot Topics, 2014-2015 Intra-District Transfer and Open Enrollment.

The School Board is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, with the following items on the agenda:

Washington County has recently distributed the Proposed Taxes for 2014 Statements.

East Ridge High School student Grant Ryerse has been selected for the second consecutive year to play at the 2014 Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl.

The Park High School Robotics Team took first place at the Minne-Mini Regional.
