District News

The School Board met on Thursday, Feb. 6, with the following items on the agenda:

Wednesday, Feb. 5 was the first day of the regular signing period for students to sign a National Letter of Intent to participate in inter-collegiate athletics next year.

A team representing South Washington County Schools achieved Highest Honors in the recent WordMasters Challenge™, a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 students annually.

The top band, choir and orchestra students from the District 833’s high schools participated in the Suburban East Conference (SEC) Music Festival on Feb.

Logan Carstensen (Science, Lake Middle School), Donna Lloyd (Kindergarten, Woodbury Elementary), and Alissa Hill (Second Grade, Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion) have been named candidates for Education Minnesota’s Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

East Ridge, Park and Woodbury high schools have advanced to the section finals of the One Act play competition, earning three of the four spots over two days of competition.

The Academics, Arts and Athletics (Triple A) Award is awarded to high school seniors who have a B or better grade point average and who participate in League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.

Woodbury High School is seeking people who are employed in the areas of agriculture, food and natural resources, as well as engineering, manufacturing and technology to serve as speakers at their annual Career Day on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Newport Elementary School held a Cultural Arts Festival on Thursday, Jan. 23 as a way for students to learn about the world’s many cultures.
