Park High School’s Wolfriders Step Team performed for more than 500 students across Minnesota at the Ordway Theater in St. Paul on Friday, Oct. 26. The team was invited to perform through an educational partnership with the Ordway.

Park High School is part of the Ordway’s Share the Rhythm program, which helps promote art-based learning in K-12 schools. The performance was part of a day of performances featuring student groups that are partnered with the Ordway.

According to Equity Alliance MN, “the step tradition was made popular by African-American fraternities and sororities and involves movement, singing, speaking, chanting and drama. Stepping in the U.S. can be traced as far back as the 1920’s fraternities at Howard University.”

Park High School’s step team was created in 2007 and has more than 20 members this year. The team is advised by Lynn Deiman and coached by Sean Burns.
