New assistant principal approved for Lake Middle School

Roderic (Eric) VanScoy has been approved to fill the assistant principal vacancy at Lake Middle School.  VanScoy will begin his administrative duties on July 1, 2013. The position became available following the retirement announcement of Mr. John Schmidt at the end of the current school year.

VanScoy has been a member of the Lake Middle School educational team for the past nine years in the role of band director.  Prior to his time in District 833, he was the band director at Hill Murray in Maplewood, MN.  VanScoy received his undergraduate degree in music performance from St. Olaf College, his masters in instrumental conducting from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas and most recently completed his K-12 principal licensure program through the University of Minnesota.

Performing many leadership roles, VanScoy’s most recent was as serving as an administrative intern during the 2012-13 school year at Lake Middle School.  Principal Molly Roeske stated, “Mr. VanScoy has been an integral member and natural leader of our staff for many years.  He has shown a strong commitment to the students, families and staff members at Lake Middle School in his many leadership roles.  He knows Lake Middle School inside and out and enters into this role with initiative and intensive in-building experiences that will help us continue in our progress of refining the middle school experience for our students and staff members.  Mr. VanScoy is a positive, progressive and committed professional and the Lake school community will benefit greatly from having him in an administrative role.”

Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Keith Ryskoski, added, “We are confident that Mr. VanScoy will be a positive leader for the Lake Middle School students, staff and school community.”
