The Middleton Elementary School community joined together to raise more than $16,000 for the American Heart Association during the school’s Jump Rope for Heart Event on Friday, Feb. 9.

The event was organized by Joe Quintavalle, a Physical Education Teacher at Middleton, who said more than 700 students in grades first through fifth took part in the annual event.

“We had all the school specialists, parent volunteers and our PTO help with this event. It was a team effort that lead to our success,” said Quintavalle.

This year was even more special this year as Middleton Physical Education Specialist and Park High School Cross Country and Track and Field Coach, Brad Narveson, underwent heart surgery in August.

Narveson was diagnosed with an ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm in June. While doctors were making this diagnosis, they discovered a significant blockage in one of Narveson’s coronary arteries.

The fundraising goal for this year’s event was $12,000. For reaching the goal, the Narveson family made a $1,000 donation from the Karen Lillian Narveson Legacy Fund.
