Kids Club Students Soak in the Solar Eclipse

As the moon crossed over the sun, students at Bailey Elementary School fixed their eyes into cardboard boxes to view the solar eclipse on Aug. 21. The students, who were participating in Kids Club, spent several days preparing for the historic event.

Kids Club organizer Terri Feesl said before the big event, students learned about the science behind the eclipse and how to protect their eyes while viewing the rare sight.

Students crafted viewers using cardboard cereal boxes, foil and paper. The viewer allowed them to see a mirror image as the moon crossed over the sun, sparing their eyes from harmful rays.

Students were excited by the historic event, saying the sun started to look like the moon during the eclipse.
