Four students selected for the Minnesota Speech Coaches Association All-State Speech Team
The Minnesota Speech Coaches Association (MSCA) has released the names of 66 speech competitors from around the state, who have earned their way onto the 2017 All-State Speech Team. Four of these students are from District 833; Kevin Bi, Quintin Walker and Alicia Zhang from East Ridge High School, and William Vouk from Woodbury High School.
The 66 speakers, qualifying for the inaugural team, did so by reaching a rigorous set of milestones over the course of their speech career. Each student, who is recommended by their coach, must be a graduating senior, has been part of their team’s subsection or section team for at least three years and has qualified for the state tournament for at least two years. In addition, the speakers selected to the All-State Team must demonstrate their use of speech skills in at least three other activities. Many of the speakers have used their speech communication skills in activities such as Student Council, National Honor Society, theatre or leadership in the athletic arena.
MSCA President, Jason Olson commented, “These students represent truly outstanding well-rounded individuals who are the type of leaders we hope will bring positive change to our society through their powerful voices and actions. They deserve to be recognized for their passion and commitment.”
The All-State students will receive their award at the Minnesota State High School League State Speech Tournament on April 21-22, 2017 at Apple Valley High School.
Congratulations to these students!
