Five seats open in November School Board election

The District 833 School Board has five seats open for election on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Four members will be elected to the School Board for terms of four years each and one member will be elected for a two-year term. Board members Tracy Brunnette, Katy McElwee-Stevens, Katie Schwartz and Sharon Van Leer currently fill these seats, along with one vacant seat that will be filled for approximately two years.

The period for filing affidavits of candidacy for the office of District 833 School Board member begins on Aug. 1, and closes at 5 p.m. on Aug. 15. Affidavits of candidacy will be available at the District Service Center (7362 E. Point Douglas Road S., Cottage Grove). The filing fee for this office is $2 (paid by cash or check made out to South Washington County Schools).  

Candidates must be eligible voters, be 21 years of age or more on assuming office, have been a resident of the school district from which the candidate seeks election for 30 days before the general election, and must have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same primary or general election. Candidates must also confirm that they have not been convicted of an offense for which registration is required under Minnesota Statutes, Section 243.166 (registration of predatory offenders).

The affidavits of candidacy and filing fee must be filed at the District Service Center Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and prior to 5 p.m. on Aug. 15.
