District 833 announces appointment of next Director of Human Resources

District 833 is pleased to announce that Kevin Witherspoon, Ed.D., has been appointed as the next Director of Human Resources and plans to transition to the position July 1, pending School Board approval.

Of his acceptance for the position, Superintendent Keith Jacobus commented, "Dr. Witherspoon's experience in the legal and personnel aspects of special education give him invaluable experience that will transfer well to the position of Human Resources Director. Kevin has been an important member of the central office as Director of Special Services for the past three years and I'm pleased to have him assume the Human Resources responsibilities."

Witherspoon has been with South Washington County Schools for nine years, three as the Director of Special Services and for six as an assistant principal for Park High School. As the Director of Special Services, he provided leadership for special education, health services, mental health services, alternative programs and homebound services. He promoted public awareness and understanding of the programs involved with special services and made recommendations for new programs, program changes, facilities, staffing and equipment. His experiences with Due Process and all aspects of federal and state requirements will support the work of the Human Resources Department and supporting employees.

Of the appointment, Witherspoon shared, "As the Director of Special Services for the district, I've expanded my skillset in supervising more than 500 employees in the district. The alignment of the responsibilities with that of Human Resources became apparent in what has always been a skillset and interest of mine." As he transitions to the new position, Witherspoon "looks forward to fostering collaboration, communication and building relationships to enhance the climate and culture for all employees in District 833."

Prior to his experiences in District 833, Witherspoon served as a special education coordinator in Lakeville Area Public Schools, and a teacher in the Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan School District. He is a member of the Minnesota Association of Special Educators and also the Minnesota Association of School Administrators.

He replaces a vacancy that has been difficult for the district to fill. The district will next move forward with replacing the Director of Special Services position.
