The Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced Linnea Gamache, a Reading Specialist at Cottage Grove Elementary School, as the winner of the 2018 Educator of the Year Award. Gamache was surprised with the news by representatives of the Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce and South Washington County Schools on Monday, September 17, 2018.

Gamache has been the Reading Specialist at Cottage Grove Elementary for six years. Over that time, Cottage Grove Elementary Principal Theresa Blume-Thole says Gamache has fostered a love of reading for children of all abilities at the school. Blume-Thole also credits Gamache’s work as an integral part in the school’s ability to reduce the achievement gap by 50 percent in both math and reading, an accomplishment that earned the school recognition from the Minnesota Department of Education in 2017.

“Linnea is a passionate educator who goes way beyond what is typically expected of an elementary school reading specialist. She is a coach, mentor, teacher, friend and a valuable leader at Cottage Grove Elementary,” said Blume-Thole. “Students seek out Mrs. Gamache on a daily basis. They want to read with her, work with her and just hang with her. She is simply amazing and definitely fits the title of Educator of the Year.”

Every year, the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes an Educator of the Year along with other community awards. The 2018 Cottage Grove Area Chamber Annual Banquet will be held on September 27 at River Oaks Golf Course.
