Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce selects Jeannie Kilgore as 2017 Educator of the Year

The Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced Jeannie Kilgore as the 2017 Educator of the Year Award. Cottage Grove Middle School principal Elise Block and Brian Boothe, Director of Professional Development and Accountability surprised Kilgore with the news during the morning daily announcements.

Kilgore has been the Reading Specialist at Cottage Grove Middle for 17 years. She is actively involved with the AVID team and AVID night, the Ride/Walk to School Day, the Lion’s Club and Standing Strong 5K, a program for Cottage Grove Middle and Oltman Middle to raise monies for anti-bullying programs. Additionally, she chaperones for after school and evening events, and consistently helps and recognizes others around the school community.

“Jeannie is a positive leader in the culture and climate of Cottage Grove Middle and our students. Her Respect All Humans (RAH) Club is known for the positive acts of kindness around the building and, when possible, the community,” said Elise Block. “Students enjoy her class and it shows in their motivation to do their best and be a positive member of the class.”

Every year, the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes an Educator of the Year along with other community awards. The 2017 Cottage Grove Area Chamber Annual Banquet will be held on Sept. 28 at the Historic John P. Furber Farm.
