Michael Johnson came to District 833 in July 2014 from the School District of River Falls, where he served as the Director of Academic Services. He has also served as a middle school principal and assistant principal for River Falls High School. For nearly a decade he has been an adjunct professor for the University of Wisconsin at River Falls in assessment and principal licensure. Johnson began his career as an English teacher, advisor and coach in west-central Wisconsin.

Currently working on his doctorate through Bethel University, Johnson has a specialist in education degree from the University of St. Thomas, principal licensure through the University of Wisconsin-River Falls; and master’s in education and bachelor’s in English from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Julie Nielsen began as Assistant Superintendent in July 2014, after serving as Middleton Elementary School’s principal for eight years. She also served on special assignment through the 2013 referendum and is currently facilitating the district’s Long Range Facility Task Force. Nielsen previously served as an elementary principal for Northfield Public Schools for four years. Prior to principal leadership, she was with District 833 from 1992 through 2002, as an assistant principal, physical education specialist, and girls’ basketball coach.

Nielsen holds superintendent licensure, K-12 educational administrative licensure, and master’s in education through Saint Mary’s University, and K-12 physical education, developmentally adapted physical education and coaching certificate from Winona State University. She is a member of the Minnesota Elementary Principals’ Association, the Metropolitan Principals’ Academy, and the Association for Supervision, Curriculum and Staff Development.
